What picture do you draw or pop up in your mind when you encounter the word HOMELESS?
I will tell you what I used to think or draw in my mind about the word: a person, wearing baggy clothing, carrying a huge backpack, and roaming around, either looking for drugs or stealing something.
That’s not even nearly true. Maybe in some cases, that’s just one side of the coin. But before working on this story, I never thought about flipping the coin and looking on the other side. I watched so many YouTube videos and read non-profit stories about homeless people but didn’t know if those were actually true or not!
When I took the Feature Writing course, we were free to work on any topic that interests us. That time I thought why not discover the truth by myself? The more I dug deeper, the more my ideas started to change, and in the end, I had a completely different perspective on the word “homeless”.
I hope this story might change some of our perceptions towards them…
